Speakers at a seminar in Khulna on Sunday urged the Government for effective action to create accommodations appropriate cyclone and the coastal embankments to save the inhabitants of cyclones and water surge higher.
They made the demand at the seminar on ' importance of dike and Cyclone shelters for risk reduction for the coastal people ' arranged with the help of Shapla NIR, Japan and Japan International cooperation agency circuit House in Bagerhat Jagrata Juba Sangha.
Assistant Professor of urban and rural planning Division Khulna University Mostafizur Rahman presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
The speaker said that Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries of climate change was and the coastal areas where natural disasters occurring were frequently last years most vulnerable area.
The coastal areas lacked the sufficient number of Cyclone shelters and the dams were not too high to make the water wave, they said, adding that most of the roads in the direction of the Cyclone shelters repair and reconstruction required.
People had to suffer in the cyclone centers for appropriate arrangement of clean drinking water, toilets and storage of agricultural products, said the speaker.
Mostafizur Rahman, grain in his keynote speech, storage capacity, suggested accommodations with sufficient toilets, rain water harvesting and food for the setting of reasonable cyclone at least 15 M High Dam and strong coordination of the various Government and non-governmental organizations risk and reduction in disasters.
