Padma BridgeMuhith out to save corrupt colleagues: BNP? Staff CorrespondentBNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday alleged that Finance Minister AMA Muhith was trying to save his corrupt cabinet colleagues by creating smokescreen over corruption in Padma Bridge project. ?The World Bank has suspended its fund for the project brining the allegation of corruption. But the finance minister is misleading the people by saying that there was no corruption in the project,? the BNP leader said after paying homage to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
Mirza Fakhrul along with opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque placed wreaths at the grave of the late president and offered special prayers there in the morning.
Muhith on Thursday claimed that there was no irregularity in the proposed Padma Bridge project. Reiterating his party?s demand for restoration of caretaker government system, Fakhrul said ?People have taken to the streets with the demand. The road march toward Sylhet has proved it.??You (government) still have time in your hand. Step down and hold a mid-term election under the caretaker government system,? he asked the government. Asked about Narayanganj City Corporation elections, Fakhrul said it is a local government election and there is no scope of party support in the polls.
Talking to reporters, Jainul Abdin Farroque said,? I am not well completely and my treatment has not completed. But the government compelled me to return home filing false cases against me?.
