Outlawed party leader killed in Rab

Sirajganj: A regional commander of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (Lal Pataka) was killed in crossfire with Rab-12 in Kamarkhand upazila under in Sirajganj on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Khorshed Alam, 34, son of late Abdus Sattar of Zatibari Rasulpur village under Kamarkhand upazila.


Lt Col ATM Anisuzzaman, director of Rab-12 in Sirajganj, told journalists at a press briefing on Friday morning that a team of Rab-12 led by DAD Mafiz Uddin raided Char-Tengrail village at about 2:30am when Khorshed and his accomplices were holding a clandestine meeting.


Sensing Rab?s presence, the extremists opened fire on Rab members and they retaliated in self-defence. At one stage of gunfight Khorshed Alam was hit by bullet while his accomplices fled. His body was later recovered along with one foreign made revolver, 4 LG guns, 3 rounds of bullet, some home-made sharp weapons from the spot.


Officer-in-charge Sohrab Ali of Kamarkhand police station said that the dead body was sent to Sirajganj General Hospital for autopsy.


He added that the criminal had created a reign of terror in the upazila. He was wanted in a number of cases, including five for murder, Rab-12 spokesman Major Mustaffizur Rahman said.
